Kamikaze drones are small, explosive UAVs designed for precision strikes. Ideal for modern warfare, they offer stealth, autonomy, and cost-effective combat solutions.
Kamikaze Drone are unmanned aircraft that are packed with explosives and flown directly at a tank or group of troops that are destroyed when they hit the target and explode. These drones are also known as Switchblade drones. The name was derived Japanese Kamikaze pilots from the World War 2 era that conducted suicide attacks by intentionally crashing with explosive filled aircraft into enemy targets.
Kamikaze Drones Features
Kamikaze Drones are switchblade drones that are small in size and packed with explosives and launched directly at the target unmanned and explodes. The features of the Kamikaze drones include:
- Modern drone variants possess the ability to bypass conventional defence systems while remaining cost-effective compared to larger platforms.
- These compact, weaponised drones are challenging to detect by radar and can be pre-programmed using facial recognition technology to autonomously engage targets.
- While the U.S. leads with its advanced kamikaze drones, similar capabilities have been developed by Russia, China, Israel, Iran, and Turkey.

Kamikaze Drones Design
The Kamikaze Drones are also known as switchblade drones due to their bladelike wings that spring out on launch.
- The drones have been designed to go past traditional defences to strike its targets and cost a fraction of what the larger counterparts do.
- The Kamikaze Drones are designed to detect on radar, and can hit targets without human intervention, based on facial recognition.

Kamikaze Drones Specifications
The Switchblade Drones have the following specifications about its features and design:
-
Lightweight and Portable:
The Switchblade drone weighs approximately 5.5 pounds, including its warhead, making it portable enough to be carried in a backpack. It has a range of up to 7 miles for target engagement. -
Adjustable Blast Radius:
Operators can modify the blast radius to strike specific individuals, such as a vehicle’s driver, while sparing others. The attack can also be aborted up to two seconds before impact.
Integrated Visual Capabilities:
Equipped with onboard cameras, the Switchblade provides real-time video feed and imagery seconds before impact. It operates at a cruising speed of 63 miles per hour, enabling centralised situational awareness.
